These are exactly as described. They are an incredibly hard plastic and after a few moments of testing them with my roommate, they are very effective. You don't need any specialized training to use these effectively. Just to clarify: you only get one, not a pair. I picked up two and I couldn't be more satisfied with the product.
As others have mentioned, you get one. I purchased a black Kuba, as all my laces are black. Once you put it in place, unless you know it's there, this thing is impossible to see! But does it pack a punch! The Kuba has holes spread across the exterior of the base - so you could thread these into your laces or even attach to a glove or rig up a holder for palm use. You can tell it's there for the first few minutes, but your foot gets used to it. Then you forget it's there.

This is not a toy, it's a weapon. It's very sharp despite being blunt. It blends into a shoe of the same color, even though my laces are bright green. I still have prints on my arm from just pressing it against the skin for a few seconds. I suggest anyone that buys this watch the video on youtube before trying it. Stick to the arms and legs, and be careful. As you can see on the video kicking may not be necessary to take down an attacker. I'll be buying the Griffin grips now that I've seen the Kickz in person. Very, very happy. :]
Excellent hidden self defense tool. Just slips under the laces of your tennis shoes or running shoes and you are ready for a quick kick to the shins of your attacker. Great escape tool. They will not be able to chase you. I love this item. Lightweight, and extremely tough! There are some great videos on youtube.
